velocityrunnerIn this continuation from my last Blog post, let’s explore this Velocity issue a little further.

A Race With Yourself

No one else can walk in your shoes. You know, through a lifetime of experience, what work habits create the most productivity for you. The problem arises when we look at a number of our teachers, after  whom we are trying to model ourselves . We try a little of person A’s style blended with a little of person B’s…and we try to model something that has no semblance of what works for us, individually.

For example, my mentor, Armand Morin, is most productive from 10 at night to 5 in the morning. Those are my sleeping hours. My coach, Connie Ragen Green, sings the mantra, “Write an article a day!” I’m just not wired that way. The point is that if I try to copy these styles, I’ll just be frustrated day after day.

The Constant

There is one thing consistent in every successful person in whose footsteps you want to follow. And that is they have a clear sense of what action they need to take to be successful on a weekly basis. That’s the lesson to take from this.

You know what you need to be doing. The problem is the whirlwind of actions you think you need to be taking, but which, in reality, aren’t sustainable. You can only do 1 thing effectively at a time. So, within your mix of productive times of the day, balancing family and other work constraints, and personal time…you have to make those productive moments count.

Here’s an equation I want you to consider to break free from the pattern of working long hours with little to show for it…

T+A+V=R

Available Time + Focused Action + Increasing the Rate of Implementation (Velocity) = Improved Results

This is a practiced skill. Let’s take a simple example…writing an Article to place on Ezine Articles. Let’s say at the beginning, it takes you about 1.5 hours to write the article, search for good keywords, create your Resource box, and post the article.

But, as you start to look at the fact that you have only an average of, say, 4 hours a day to devote to your business (T)…and the realization that you need to focus on the critical pieces of your business, such as building your List and increasing Revenue (A), you begin to accelerate your article production (V). You let go of your perfectionism. You streamline. You get it down to 30 minutes, thus freeing up 1 hourfor the most important tasks required to move you forward.

Try putting this idea into practice today in your business.

Every once in awhile, a new trend emerges on the Internet. It starts out as something very subtle, but then it jumps out, becoming very obvious.

The latest trend is coming about as a result of  the increase in the rate of information flow to marketers having reached the point where it’s impossible to keep up…unless you have some super human talent, or an efficient staff.

VELOCITY…The New Trend

The existing paradigm has marketers frantically pursuing their “To Do” list, trying to keep ahead of an ever-increasing task list. That can’t work in a world where the pile keeps getting higher.

What is needed is to transcend the current way of doing things all together…to create a way of doing business that sidesteps the “To Do” List all together. That translates to increasing the rate at which we get things accomplished…VELOCITY

Here’s the dictionary definition of Velocityquickness or rapidity of motion or action; rate of change of position, in relation to time

Now, I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I can speak to my observations and what’s working for me.

3 Critical Areas to Accelerate

The ultimate goal is to increase the rate at which our busineeses grow. No one likes the feeling of looking back at the last 30 days and asking, “Where did the time go?”

I’ve identified 3 Critical Areas in our business in which we need to speed up the rate of activity:

  1. Driving Traffic (results in building our List)
  2. Creating more of  our own  products and promoting more Affiliate products (results in increased Revenue…especially as our List grows).
  3. Outsourcing to others the implementation tasks (so we can focus on strategic elements of our business).

In follow-up posts, we’ll look at how increasing the velocity of results in these areas are critical for moving your business forward.

Growth Strategy: Go Deep or Go Wide?

We’re not listening in on a conversation between quarterback and wide receiver here. Rather, this is about the perpetual dilemma we all face, as internet marketers, of whether to work deeply on one project until completion…vs. working a little bit at a time on several tasks to move them all forward.
This has been an issue that [...]
