In this continuation from my last Blog post, let’s explore this Velocity issue a little further.
A Race With Yourself
No one else can walk in your shoes. You know, through a lifetime of experience, what work habits create the most productivity for you. The problem arises when we look at a number of our teachers, after whom we are trying to model ourselves . We try a little of person A’s style blended with a little of person B’s…and we try to model something that has no semblance of what works for us, individually.
For example, my mentor, Armand Morin, is most productive from 10 at night to 5 in the morning. Those are my sleeping hours. My coach, Connie Ragen Green, sings the mantra, “Write an article a day!” I’m just not wired that way. The point is that if I try to copy these styles, I’ll just be frustrated day after day.
The Constant
There is one thing consistent in every successful person in whose footsteps you want to follow. And that is they have a clear sense of what action they need to take to be successful on a weekly basis. That’s the lesson to take from this.
You know what you need to be doing. The problem is the whirlwind of actions you think you need to be taking, but which, in reality, aren’t sustainable. You can only do 1 thing effectively at a time. So, within your mix of productive times of the day, balancing family and other work constraints, and personal time…you have to make those productive moments count.
Here’s an equation I want you to consider to break free from the pattern of working long hours with little to show for it…
T+A+V=R
Available Time + Focused Action + Increasing the Rate of Implementation (Velocity) = Improved Results
This is a practiced skill. Let’s take a simple example…writing an Article to place on Ezine Articles. Let’s say at the beginning, it takes you about 1.5 hours to write the article, search for good keywords, create your Resource box, and post the article.
But, as you start to look at the fact that you have only an average of, say, 4 hours a day to devote to your business (T)…and the realization that you need to focus on the critical pieces of your business, such as building your List and increasing Revenue (A), you begin to accelerate your article production (V). You let go of your perfectionism. You streamline. You get it down to 30 minutes, thus freeing up 1 hourfor the most important tasks required to move you forward.
Try putting this idea into practice today in your business.
