Steps to Getting Your Blog Online
The good news is that hosting your own blog is easy to do.
First, decide on a keyword-rich domain name for your blog, and if possible, you want the dot-com version of the name. Then purchase that domain name (that should cost you about $10 a year, with some price fluctuation depending upon the domain service you use).
Now you need to subscribe to a webhosting service. Typical hosting will cost you about $10 a month, if you carefully avoid any of the upsells in the setting-up process. Plan to get webhosting on a different service than you used for buying your domain name. Also look for a webhost that offers cPanel (the control panel for your webhost) and either Fantastico Deluxe or SimpleScripts. You don’t need to know what these are right now; you just need to be sure your webhost includes them.
Then you have to point your domain name servers (DNS) to your webhost, and install the free WordPress software. That installation (if you did what we recommend in the previous paragraph) will take you a few simple clicks.
Finally you’ll want to find a good theme to use to make your blog look a bit customized, and you are ready to start blogging. You now have your own website on which you can start an online business, for under $20 a month.
